MBC GYMNASTS COMPETE AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Over the Mid-Year holiday period, MBC Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnasts competed in their respective National Championships, with creditable results.

The MBC Rhythmic State Representatives travelled to Adelaide with their MBC and State Coaches, Edith and Gina Peluso; achieving the following results;

* Tessa Horgan – Level 7, competing at her first National Event, making the finals in the Ball Event.

* Mae McDonald – Level 8, assisted Queensland to a Silver Medal in the Team Event.

* Barbara Belford – Level 10, was a member of the Silver Medal Queensland Team, placing 4^th in the All Around; and 4^th in 3 Apparatus finals.

* Alexia Teixeira – Stage 3, placed 12^th All Around in her first National Event and assisted Queensland to the Silver Medal in the Team Event.

* Naazmi Johnston, our MBC Senior International and Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist performed consistently to place 2^nd All Around and won the Silver Medal in all 4 Events (Ribbon, Ball, Hoop, Rope).

* Naazmi was one of two gymnasts selected to represent Australia at World Championships to be staged in Patras, Greece in September 2007. This event will serve as 2008 Olympic Games Qualification. Best of Luck Naazmi! Naazmi will be accompanied by her MBC International Coach – Ms Gina Peluso.

The MBC Artistic State Representatives competed in their National Event at the Sleeman Sports Centre, Brisbane during the first week of July. Results for MBC students included:

* Courtney Haley – Level 7, competing at her first National Championships for Queensland earnt a Gold Medal in the Team event and placed 6^th All Around.

* Natalie Cruickshanks – Level 8, the Queensland Level 8 State Champion was the best performing Queenslander at 12^th All Around, and led Queensland to the Bronze Medal in the Team Event.

* Tara Brady - Level 8, achieved a Bronze Medal in the Team Event and placed 20^th All Around.

* Brianna Wong – International Level 6 – 6^th All Around, Silver Medal – Beam & Vault

* Brittany Boffo – International Level 6 – 12^th All Around in her first National event.

* Georgia-Rose Brown – International Level 8 – 4^th All Around, Gold Medal – Beam & Floor.

* Shar-Lee Clark – International Level 8 – 15^th All Around.

* Sherilyse Gowlett – International Level 8 – 16^th All Around in her first National event.

* Talitha Boffo – International Level 8 – 19^th All Around in her first National event.

* Chloe Sims, MBC’s Senior International heads to Canberra with her Master International MBC Coaches, Olga & Sasha Belooussov to vie for final selection in the Australian World Championship Team to compete in Suttgart, Germany from the 1^st to 9^th September. This is a major event for the Australian team; as 2008 Olympic Team Selection is to be finalised.
