MBC and Queensland’s First RG Olympian

Naazmi Johnston (MBC Senior 2006) has created history for Moreton Bay College and Queensland following her return from the 2007 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Patras, Greece.

Naazmi becomes Queensland’s first Rhythmic Gymnastic Olympian (Beijing 2008) and MBC’s first “home grown” Olympian.  Naazmi was one of two Australians selected to represent Australia at the 2007 World Championships; and following stellar performances on all four apparatus (Rope, Ribbon, Hoop, Clubs) was the top performer from the Oceania region; earning Olympic qualification for 2008.

Naazmi’s rise to become Australia’s premier Rhythmic Gymnast has been guided by her International Coaching Staff; Edith & Gina Peluso.  Gina accompanied Naazmi as her Australian coach at this World Championship and also completed a successful series of European events with Naazmi as Coach and FIG Judge leading up to the World Championships.

Naazmi is the leading International Rhythmic Gymnast of the MBC Centre of Excellence in Gymnastics; a significant Educational initiative commenced at MBC in 2001.  The MBC Rhythmic Gymnastic Centre of Excellence led by Head Coaches, Edith & Gina Peluso is unique in the Queensland and Australian Educational environment; as it provides for the complete “In School” development of the academic, pastoral and Gymnastic excellence needs of students “under one roof, everyday.”
